Freebies: Worth The Download?

I’ve created a new section called Freebies.  In this section, I do a quick review of 5 (in this case 10) free game apps. They will be done out of 5 hearts, and end with either: A Must!, Yes, Opinion, No, Never.

Aurora Feint: The Beginning

Overall, I was very impressed with this app.  How can this app be free?  Most apps sold for under $5 are worse than this game.  Gameplay, and Graphics are really good in this game!

BreakClassic

OK, well it’s not free any more, but it was.  Anyway, this is a great freebie.  Great classic breakout-style gameplay.  Good graphics too!

Tap Tap Revenge

This game has a great idea going for it. And it almost pulls it off. But, because of the limits to the SDK, you can’t play your own music. Without the feature, there is only really 4 songs to play. That is almost the only fault with this game. I love the two player versus in this game.

Morocco

This is an extremely basic game. It’s fun for those who like these kinds of games, but doesn’t add much to it. You can play against a CPU and a friend, which is a good feature.

PapiJump

This is a great game. Controls are very responsive, and the graphics work. There isn’t much to the game, but this game really shows the power of the iPhone when used correctly.

Jawbreaker

This game is really hard to review. It has good gameplay, but yet the visuals aren’t that good. Overall, you “should” try it, but it’s not for everyone.

PegJump

This game looked good to me, so I downloaded it. It entertained me for about five minutes, then I beat it. This game has no lasting appeal at all. Getting a fast time is also easy because you can simply write down the fastest way to do it, then do over and over again until you get a fast enough time.

Blip Solitaire

No, the name isn’t what it suggests, it’s not solitaire. This game is a pong-like game, but you play to get a high score. You are trying to keep the ball within the invisible circular area with your paddle. Gameplay is good, and graphics are good enough for this kind of game. All in all, it’s just an average game.

Hanoi

This is a simple yet addictive game. It gets hard quickly though. Graphics are simple, but they work. It’s a good brain teaser, but not much more.

Cube Runner

This is a great little app. Graphics won’t impress anybody, but the gameplay will! This game will also almost last forever with the stage creator in the game.
